  • Visit the underground catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa. the Catacombs of Kom El Shuqafa are the largest and most important burial archeological site in Egypt. They date back to the Greco-Roman period. The site was discovered accidentally at the beginning of the 20th century.
    Being the most important Greco Roman necropolis in Egypt, The burials have a mixture of Pharaonic, Hellenistic, and Roman ornamental art, basics that were all common during this period in Alexandria.

  • Next to the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa is located Pompay's pillar. The only known free-standing column in Roman Egypt is one of the largest ancient monolithic columns ever erected. The column is a pink granite cut from the ancient quarries at Aswan. The weight of the column shaft, a single piece of red granite, is estimated to be 285 tonnes. The column is 26.85 m high including its base and capital.

  • Enjoy a visit to Fort Qaitbay, once considered one of the foremost important self-protective forts along the Mediterranean coast. It was a vital part of the fortification system of Alexandria within the 15th century AD.
    The fort was built in front of the eastern harbor on the eastern side of Pharos Island, it was erected on the exact spot of the well-known Lighthouse of Alexandria. In the 14th century, there was a destructive earthquake and the whole structure was fully destroyed; the citadel you see now was constructed in its place.
